Doula means “sister helper” in Greek. Doulas are not medically trained; they are there to support the Mother (and Father) physically and emotionally through the entire birthing process.
A Doula is not meant to replace the husband, or any other support person that may be present. The specific role of a Doula changes based on what each mother’s needs are. Sometimes it is reminding the mother to breathe and relax, providing her with reassurance and encouragement; massage; keeping her aware of her options; quelling fears, communicate with hospital staff and anyone in the waiting room and to provide a calm rock for both mother and father.
I have a natural view on birth. God created us and therefore created women to give birth. With proper preparation and support, with His strength birth can be an amazing experience for everyone involved.
